NO ONE WARNED ME: PART 5

Hello you, thanks for coming back!

Before giving birth, I was warned that I would need to try different things to find what works best for my little one. Personally, this task terrified me. Then once I was put to the test, I was so afraid that I would do something wrong and damage her forever. I’m sure there are a few out there that laugh at that statement & think that sounds... well, maybe a little dramatic. Let’s just chalk it up to postpartum hormones!

Eventually, I was able to find my groove and gained enough courage to try whatever it took to find what would best please my baby. I am well aware that every baby is different, and that’s the point of this week’s blog. Different babies, prefer different things. I want to share some tips & tricks that worked for my little one in hopes of helping any fellow momma’s out there, who may be struggling.

No one ever warned me how much swaddling would absolutely suck! Although swaddling is necessary, it isn’t fun and it most definitely isn’t easy. So, here’s tip number one for you: invest in a swaddle sleep sack. You won’t regret it, I promise. Trust me, the last thing you want to be doing in the late night hours is fumbling with a blanket. The swaddle sleep sack makes everything so much easier and quicker. Tip two for ya, just go ahead and get two that way you’re not having to wash the same one every, single day.

No one warned me that although people have come up with so many cool things to make life with a baby easier, sometimes those cool inventions can be incredibly difficult to use.

So here’s tip number three, keep ALL of your instructions!

On the topic of cool inventions to make things easier, I remember creating my baby registry and thinking I need the best of the best & top of the line everything. Once again, wrong. Tip number four, top of the line isn’t always best. Sometimes, the generic, cheaper way, is best.

One thing EVERYONE warned me about was how incredibly expensive formula would be. Of course, I never thought I would have to worry about that because I planned on breast feeding, no matter what. Haha, good one Nici. Moving on. So, yes, formula can be expensive. Go ahead and do some research and get yourself signed up with enfamil & similac. They will send you coupons in the mail & even send you formula at times. That has been a true God send for my family, if we’re being honest. Let’s continue to chat about formula. I have a few tips pertaining to this particular area. Please give yourself grace if you have to, or choose to go down the formula route. Also, please try & be patient with yourself. Sometimes it takes time to find the perfect formula that work best for your little one. You may have to try a few different ones before that happens. No one ever warned me how many different formulas there are out there. In the process of trying to find the best kind for your precious one, there may be times when it upsets their little tummies & can cause them to become constipated. Don’t freak out! It’s normal, I promise. If & when that happens (of course always check with your pediatrician before) you can try a diluted ounce or two of apple juice, mylicon gas drops, or a teaspoon of Karo corn syrup 1-2 times a day. All of those worked for us when our girl was struggling.

Yes, I realize I am still a new mom & I am still learning. For those women (or people) out there that feel like I don’t have the right to be giving out tips or tricks to help other moms/parents, please hear my heart. My goal here is to help any new moms or expecting moms by simply sharing my story and hopefully give a little laugh or two here & there. It’s our job as moms to raise kind, God-fearing children & help build up other momma’s to do the same. So, that’s what I will continue to do because I was chosen to be a momma & so are you.
