Hey there & welcome to my Mom Blog!
I’ve heard hundreds of women share their hearts about becoming mothers. I’ve heard many say they were born to be mothers. I’ve heard many talk about the joys of motherhood and how drastically your life changes the first second you hold that new life in your hands. Truth is, no one can truly prepare you enough for all that’s to come with the new job titled “Momma”.
Becoming a mother has been life changing for me, to say the least. And if by sharing my journey of motherhood with other new momma’s or momma’s to be, can help prepare one woman even the slightest bit for all the crazy, beautiful adventures that lie ahead, then it is my true honor.
My plan for this blog is to start by sharing a series of things no one warned me about before becoming a mother. Some of these will be amusing, some sad, some scary, and some just plain ridiculous. So join me as we ride this emotional roller coaster together.
No one warned me that I would spend the majority of my days washing baby bottles. If you choose to use anti-colic bottles, great choice, but be prepared to wash a ton of different pieces. When I was gifted with a bottle sterilizer before my little one was born, I thought it was going to be a huge time saver. WRONG. It wasn’t until after a week of bottle feeding that my husband finally came to me & said “you know the sterilizer isn’t a bottle dishwasher, right ”. Sheesh. I felt so ignorant. To be fair, I was fresh on the mommy train & strapped in tight on the postpartum depression coaster. Looking back, I’m not really sure how I survived those first few weeks without my husband, but we will save all that for another time.
You know that verse “pray without ceasing?” Well here’s another one for ya from the book of motherhood: “wash without ceasing”. Not only would I be spending my days washing bottles barefoot in the kitchen, I also had to get used to the sound of my washing machine constantly running. No one warned me that I would be washing little baby clothes all day, every day. I could not understand for the life of me how such a small little person could be such a mess. How could she go through so many clothes so quickly? If you have a little one who never spits up, count your blessings my friend. Mine, however, was (and still is) the complete opposite. It never failed, as soon as I got her clothes on & dressed for the day, she’d spit up, soak herself (and me), then we’d be onto the next outfit of the day.
Speaking of washing machines, fair warning: some day, at some point, you WILL wash a diaper and that material that once kept your little one nice and dry, will cover your washer. When that day comes, just smile and keep pushing, momma. It happens to us all. You are not the first and you definitely will not be the last. It is a right of passage.
Continuing on the topic of diapers, no one ever warned me that although your diaper genie will be a complete God send, please do yourself a favor and don’t let it get too full before you decide to take it out. I don’t understand how, but diapers eventually become incredibly heavy. Trust me, you don’t want to be that mom whose having to pick up diapers after the bags busted on the way to the garbage.
Here’s another fun fact that no one warned me about when it comes to diaper changing. It’s a well-known fact that little boys have a tendency to pee on you during diaper changes. Let me tell you something friend, little boys aren’t the only ones! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been peed on by my baby girl! It always seems to happen when we’re in a hurry to get somewhere. It’s not fun guys. You don’t know true love until you’ve been peed on a couple of times.
Like I said, I’m still fresh on the mommy train, I’m still learning each and every day, but I’m enjoying every second of it and embracing every little adventure. I hope that you momma’s out there are enjoying this ride with me. Remember, you were chosen to be a momma.
